What is a visa for Australia?

The visa for Australia today is an electronic visa for almost all nationalities. This is also known as an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). More than 120 types of eTAs are available for Australia. This makes it possible in almost all cases to obtain an appropriate visa type for your trip.

In addition, all requests for Australia on our website can be fully digitally requested and processed. So you no longer have to deliver physical paperwork to us.

Because the visa is sent digitally and often has a long validity, it is possible to store it more easily and you can apply for the visa application in most cases up to almost 1 year before your actual departure date.

Which variant options for the Australia visa are there?

The most common visa is the eVisitor visa, which is intended for tourist and business travelers. In addition, there is also the Working Holiday Maker visa, this visa is intended for Dutch and Belgian passport holders, who plan to work for a period in Australia, do voluntary work or do an internship, whether or not as an employee.

Australia has over 120 different visa types to offer, which is why in almost all cases it is possible to arrange an appropriate visa type for your trip.

On our website we only offer the Working Holiday Maker visa (all types) and the eVisitor visa. The rates of this differ.

Both visas are valid for 1 year and offer multiple entries. However, with the Working Holiday visa you can be employed by one employer in Australia for up to 3 months (in exceptional cases up to 6 or 12 months – ask us about the conditions). After those 3 months, you must find another employer. However, you can also choose to take a holiday with this visa, without using the possibility of work. Pay attention though! If you have not performed (paid or unpaid) work, which falls under the specified activities of the visa conditions, on the first WHM visa obtained, it is no longer possible to apply for it for the second or third year. Read the other conditions for this visa on our Australia visa page.

Both visas are available on our website and you can submit your application to us entirely online. We will carefully review the data and documents sent by you and check for completeness. Once approved, we will submit the application for you to the appropriate Australian government department.

We will of course keep you informed of progress during the process.

Processing time, visa validity and costs

The cost and processing time for the visa depends on the type of visa you choose.

For an overview of this, please check our Australia visa page.

An eVisitor (subclass 651) e-visa costs only € 30, – including VAT per person. This visa allows you to travel to Australia for both tourist and business purposes.

This visa is valid for 12 months from the time of issue. You must enter Australia within those 12 months, then you will again have up to 12 months to travel in and out of Australia several times, as long as the consecutive stay (per entry) does not exceed 3 months in total.

The Working Holiday Maker visa (subclass 417) costs € 341.95 per person, including VAT. This visa is many times more expensive, but offers you the possibility to stay in Australia for up to 12 months consecutively. This will start from the moment you enter Australia within 12 months of the date of issue of your visa. In addition, it is permitted to carry out work with this visa, for example on a horse range or in education.

Additional information about the Australia Visa

In connection with the recent wildfires in Australia, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has accepted the Migration Institute of Australia (MIA) recommendation to relax and broaden conditions for holders of a Working Holiday Maker (WHM) visa (subclass 417 and 462) to enable them to assist in forest fires recovery efforts without violating visa requirements.

The time that a WHM visa holder can work with the same employer has been extended from 6 to 12 months for those assisting in forest fire recovery efforts. This is consistent with the arrangements made for the recovery efforts after Cyclone Debbie in 2017.

The definition of “specified work” will be revised for the WHM visa (subclass 462) to ensure that construction work is recorded in an area identified by a disaster.

Paid and voluntary disaster recovery in areas affected by the recent wildfires count towards the “itemized work” required to apply for a second or third year 417 or 462 visa.

Would you like to help fight the forest fires or do you plan to take a (working) holiday in Australia soon? Then quickly surf to our website.  We can take care of your visa completely digitally for you, without having to physically receive your passport or other documents!

The processing time usually only takes a few days. However, for some visa types this can increase up to 36 days. Always apply for your visa well in advance.

Do you want to know exactly how long it takes before we receive notification from the Australian government after submitting your application? Check the Australia visa page. Here you can see per visa type which conditions you must meet, which documents we will need from you and how long the processing time of the visa type you have chosen is.

Can’t find a visa suitable for your trip? Then do not hesitate to contact us! Our employees are happy to help you find the right visa. Because the Australian government has more than 120 types of visas, it is almost always possible to find a visa that is suitable for your travel situation.
