General questions

What is an e-visa for Tanzania?

The Tanzania Tourist Visa is an official document, which is electronically linked to your passport, allowing you to travel in Tanzania for 90 days. This document replaces the visa, no visa or label is placed in the passport.

Am I allowed to stay with friends/family in Tanzania?

Visa applicants traveling to family or friends in Tanzania must provide the following:

  • A copy of the passport or proof of identity of the applicant if he is a Tanzanian citizen or
  • A copy of the inviting party’s residence permit if he is not a Tanzanian citizen.

Visa applicants who wish to travel to a spouse or child in Tanzania must provide the following:

  • A copy of the spouse’s passport or ID if he is a Tanzanian citizen or
  • A copy of the residence permit of the spouse if he / she is not a Tanzanian citizen.
  • A copy of the child’s marriage certificate or birth certificate.

Which type of visa are available for Tanzania?

Various visas are available for Tanzania. The type of visa depends on your destination. The most common are a visa for tourist reasons or a visa for business purposes. However, you also have a family visit visa, a volunteer visa, a work visa, a transit (transfer) visa, a conference visa, a student visa and a visa on a personal invitation.
The purpose of your trip determines the type of visa you need to apply for. If you are unsure which visa is most applicable to your situation, do not hesitate to contact us! Our employees can advise you on this.

What should I do after receiving the e-visa?

After you have received the e-visa, you must print it twice and take it with you when traveling to Tanzania, 1 print you hand in when you enter and 1 print you hand in when you leave Tanzania. Also check to be sure that the information on the visa matches the information in your passport.

Do I always have to present a visa upon arrival in Tanzania?

Yes. Except for a few African passport holders, everyone who wants to enter Tanzania must have a visa in advance.
However, it appears to be possible to obtain a visa on arrival (transit visa of max. 14 days stay) at the following arrival points:

  • Dar es Salaam International Airport
  • Zanzibar International Airport
  • Kilimanjaro International Airport
  • Namanga Entry Point (Tanzania-Kenya border)

For all other border crossings, a visa is required in advance. It is also the case that not all nationalities are allowed to enter the country visa freely and it is recommended by the Tanzanian government to arrange a visa in advance.

How long am I allowed to stay in Tanzania?

The visa is valid for 90 days of consecutive stay in Tanzania upon arrival.

Am I allowed to travel to Tanzania multiple times?

Yes. However, a multiple entry visa is only available if the trip is for business, medical purposes or if you are going to volunteer. Please note, strict conditions apply to this visa, for questions about this visa it is best to contact us.

How much does the visa for Tanzania cost and how long will the procedure take?

The costs for the visa vary per visa and processing time. Normally, a normal application often takes only 7 working days. An emergency procedure can also be completed in 3 working days.

However, the embassy and consulate at all times reserve the right to take longer to assess your application than the specified average processing time.

Do children need to obtain their own visa for Tanzania?

Yes, anyone traveling, regardless of age, must be able to present a visa when entering Tanzania. This means that everyone should therefore also have their own passport (so children are not credited in the passport of a parent / guardian), to which the evisum is linked.
Also, persons under 18 years of age traveling without or with only 1 parent / guardian must provide a copy of the birth register and parental / guardian consent and a copy of their passports.

How do I order a Tanzania visa?

The procedure for applying for the visa for Tanzania starts easily online with us. To do this, open the online application form. After filling in all the details of the traveler (s) concerned, the application can be paid very simply. That is possible with iDeal, Bancontact, Paypal or with Credit Card. When the payment has been completed you will receive (within a maximum of 1 hour) an email from us with instructions on how to deliver the required documents.

How long in advance can I obtain a Tanzania visa?

As soon as you have registered your flight tickets, you can submit your application. Do this at least 7 working days before departure and if possible earlier, the sooner the better. You can apply for the visa for Tanzania online from us 24 hours a day.

Can I place a visa Tanzania order for someone else?

Yes, you can fill in all fellow travelers in one application. Even if you do not travel yourself, you can apply for a Tanzania visa for another person. Obviously, you must then have permission to use all data and documents required to apply for a visa from the relevant traveler (s).

Is it possible to extend an existing visa for Tanzania?

Yes. Once you are in Tanzania it is possible to extend the visa locally up to 6 months of validity.

My visa applicaiton has been processed, but I still haven't received an email. What should I do now?

If, after paying your visa, you have not received an email from us within an hour, first check the junk mail folder (spam box). Didn’t receive an email there either? Please contact us by phone or e-mail via the contact page.

When and how should I pay for the Tanzania e-visa application?

After submitting the online application form, you must make the payment. You can do this with: iDeal, Paypal, Bancontact or credit card.

Which documents do I have to submit in order to obtain a Tanzania e-visa?

Which data and documents you have to provide depends on your travel destination (tourist or business) and the number of entries required for your trip to Tanzania. After submitting the online visa application for Tanzania, you will receive a personal email from us with instructions on how to provide the necessary documents for your situation.

Which conditions apply to my passport?

The application passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 months upon arrival in Tanzania. If you apply for a new passport after the application, you must also apply for a new visa as they are linked, so a visa linked to an expired passport is not valid.

Your passport must contain at least one empty visa pae.

How can I provide my photograph and passport scan?

After payment of the Tanzania visa has been paid you will be redirected to the upload page. Here you can upload a passport photo and passport for each traveler, this is very easy with the provided upload tool on the relevant page. The most common file formats and file sizes can be used. After uploading the files you can cropping / cropping the image so that the correct part of the image remains.

Does my passport state the letter O or the number 0?

Document numbers in the Netherlands never contain the letter “O”, but they can contain the number “0”. Even though it seems that there is a letter O in your passport, it will be the number 0. It is also important to know that document numbers in the Netherlands are 9 characters long.
Belgian document numbers may include the letter (s) “O” and / or the number “0”. Belgian document numbers are 8 characters long and always start with 2 letters followed by 6 numbers.

Which conditions apply to my photograph?

The passport photo scan must be of high quality and in color with a white background and taken without glasses. The photograph must be taken in the past 6 months. Headwear is only allowed in the passport photo if this is for religious reasons: The visibility of the entire face is then a requirement.

Do I have to book a flight and/or hotel in advance?

To apply for the visa for Tanzania, you must provide a copy of your flight schedule, which states the return flight or transit.

Changing or cancelling an existing application

Is it possible to cancel my application?

After receiving your passport scan and the other documents, we will process your application. From that moment on, cancellation of the request is no longer possible. If you want to cancel your application before you have submitted your passport and documents, please contact us by phone or e-mail.

I made an error on my application and/or documents. Can I still correct this?

In this case, please contact us as soon as possible to indicate what is not in order. Whether your visa application can still be corrected depends on the nature of the error and the status of your application. If we have not delivered your application to the embassy yet, it is possible to make changes. If your applicaiton is already in the hands of the embassy, there is nothing we can do. You must obtain a new visa with the proper information and cancel the existing one.

If my application has been refused, will I be refunded the costs incurred?

No. We must pay the visa in advance. If the Tanzanian government decides that you are not allowed to enter the country for any reason, we cannot get these costs back. In this case you have to contact the Tanzanian embassy yourself in order to see why you are not allowed to obtain an e-visa and what you can do about this.
